- "A young man who rose to fame under the name "Juuichi ELEVEN", Juuichi has shaken the world of rock music with his visual kei looks and dominating voice. But his life came to an early end when he was accidentally killed, trying to defend his high school friend from a mugger."
- — Game manual description
Juuichi Matsumoto (松本 十一 matsumoto juuichi) is a custom character of The World Ends with You. Once a famous singer of rock music and visual kei, his life came to an end when he protected a band mate who was in his high school band from a mugger. Even so, in the UG, he continues to love his music.
Appearance[]
Juuichi is a slender young man, tall and handsome. True to his visual kei style, he wears heavy make-up that gives him a pale complexion while having an elaborate hair style which covers one of his eyes. His hair is black and highlighted with dark purple, which accompanies his purple nail polish and lip make-up. He wears a white button-up shirt, which he usually rolls the sleeves to elbow length, and black slacks. He also wears accessories such as the Double-spiked Cuff and the Spiked Choker, along with a Biker Jacket hung over his shoulders, only worn fully during concerts.
The shoes he wears is a special custom-made pair of boots he received from his fans. Being a custom remake of Pegaso's Classic Half-boots, his shoes was named "11-Classical Half-boots".
During his concerts, Juuichi wears a variety of flamboyant costumes to accompany his songs.
Personality[]
Juuichi is a man of few words, but is quick to act, sometimes labeled as very brave but sometimes exaggerated in his actions. During concerts and even when outside of his performance, Juuichi is known for speaking abstractly, saying phrases that requires a bit of decoding in order to understand what he says. Even his close friends haven't heard him talk regularly, although they sometimes know what he is trying to tell them. For many of his fans, this part of him is what makes him stand out and seem cool.
But, because he can't really tell if he's really friends with the people around him, Juuichi feels a lack of confidence and is shy on the inside.
Background[]
Juuichi was a quiet child during his elementary years. But upon entering middle school, he found a fascination in rock music, forming the band "Fra:Grance". He also picked up the visual kei fashion, although his band-mates didn't, which he was fine with. When Juuichi became a high schooler, Fra:Grance took a step forward and became a popular high school band. But at the end of high school, because his band-mates wanted to pursue a "true" career, the band disbanded and Juuichi went solo under the name "Juuichi ELEVEN".
Juuichi rose to great fame as a solo singer and a well-aclaimed guitarist within the first two years of his career. His visual kei appearance gave him more uniqueness than other music artist. He did not limit himself to rock, performing from time to time pop music, rap and even a few of enka.
At his latest concert, to even his own surprise, Kei Nakatsuma, who was the bass guitarist of Fra:Grance and now also the lead singer of his own band, made an unnotified visit onstage. Even so, Nakamatsu was welcomed by Juuichi and the two sang.
After the concert, the two enjoyed their night at a restaurant. The two had asked their escorts to let them have their time alone. But, unluckily, on a dark street, the two encountered a mugger who wielded a knife. When Nakamatsu stood up for both of them bravely, the mugger in anger of Nakamatsu's attitude took a stab at him. Juuichi stood in his way, taking the stab to the heart. Before he could say anything, Juuichi's life had ended.
In return for entering the game, Juuichi lost his singing voice. Although he can still speak regularly and play his guitar, his voice was more irreplacable than anything else to him.
Statistics[]
Abilities[]
Juuichi's fighting style involves the use of "Alveromancy", or the control over sound, using his guitar. He can send of sound waves that slice&dices his enemies. When he reaches far enough into his combo, he will start to affect enemies on both sides. Unique compared to other players, many of his attacks allow him to affect enemies on both sides, giving him control of the field in trade of damage output.
The pin Juuichi uses is Onstage, a specialized Street Jam-type pin, that allows him to inflict damage to enemies by playing the guitar. While his attack starts out weak, the longer he continues his combo, the stronger his attacks are every time he strums his guitar. His counter attack is very effective as he plays a sharp cord to stun surrounding enemies. Instead of blocking, Juuichi prefers stepping aside with grace to avoid attacks.
Efficiency[]
Juuichi's panels, both in the air and on the ground, start out with relatively low efficiency, but increases the longer the panels are. His overall finishers will also depend on how much efficiency the panels brought up.
- Ground Panel: 50-200% (increases by 15% per panel)
- Ground Finisher: 100-500%
- Air Panel: 75-150% (increases by 7.5% per panel)
- Air Finisher: 200-300%
Fusion Stars[]
Juuichi gains fusion stars through Musical Notes. An empty measure of a music sheet is displayed at the top of Juuichi's screen. There are four faint musical notes written on the measure, which is from note A to D (A to G on ultimate), and Juuichi has to get the correct note. At the side of the music sheet is a letter indication of which line of the measure is which letter.
Juuichi will only receive a star once the measure is done. If he gets the correct note, the correct note will play. But if he gets the wrong one, the note he selected with play with an awful pitch and will be considered as a "miss". While he gets 1 star for each correct note, if he gets all 4 correct without a single "miss" in the measure, he'll instead gain 6 stars. Although there is a timer for how long each measure lasts, if Juuichi gets the right note, this timer will pause for a few seconds. The wrong note will still offer a pause, although half in length.
Difficulty settings change the amount of available notes: Easy or Normal mode will have notes from A to D. Hard mode will add E, and Ultimate mode will add F and G. The settings also change the pause duration; on Easy, the pause can be as long as 4 seconds, but on Ultimate, the pause given is only as long as 2 seconds.
His fusion involves Neku and Juuichi performing a live concert of varying levels.
- Level 1: Juuichi and Neku both emits soundwaves with a moderate beat.
- Juuichi: "Raison d'être..."
- Neku: "Say that again...?"
- Level 2: Juuichi and Neku teleports around the screen, emitting strong shockwaves.
- Juuichi: "Exile..."
- Neku: "Yes. Obliterate them, right!?"
- Level 3: Juuichi and Neku blasts the surrounding with hardcore rock music, to the point of distortion.
- Juuichi: "Let's rock this stage tonight!"
- Neku: "Now you're talkin'!"
Swags:[]
- Fusion Boost Juuichi: Juuichi sticker. Increases Juuichi's max Fusion level. He receives one level for each sticker you collect. While a Fusion is powerful, don't expect it to wipe out all enemies, so always be on your guard!

- Jump: Juuichi sticker. Press up on the +Control Pad (or the X Button) while he is idle and he will soar high into the air. Whether if it is the ground or the air, allow Juuichi to perform live, rocking the battlefield with his music!
Other statistics[]
Base stats[]
Among the base stats, Juuichi happens to have high brave for a male partner sporting a base of 251 BRV (along with a fourth of the player's max level when he joins), which is explainable by how he commonly wears flamboyant outfits without hesistation.
In regards to his base battle stats, Juuichi doesn't fair as well as they are low, which doesn't compliment his already poor damage start-up efficiency on his basic attack combos. But, as the stats are raised, Juuichi becomes a destructive force. Even then, his semi-poor defense stats make him closer to being a "glass cannon".
Preference[]
Juuichi's choice of food and clothes follow his musical life style. For clothes, his clothes can range from Gothic to punk depending on his concerts. But in public, his clothes stand-out as visual kei. While he does not have a favorite brand, he buys his stage clothes from a variety of brands, such as Lapin Angelique, Tigre Punks and Pegaso. Overall, his clothes are quite expensive and elaborate.
When it comes to food, Juuichi doesn't have much likes and dislikes, except for fast-food which he prefers not to eat at all. On the other hand, his favorite food can range from the Shoyu Ramen to plain Coffee. His diet is very balanced for this reason.
Level | Multiplier | Juuichi |
---|---|---|
1 | 50% | "Depressing...marsh." |
2 | 75% | "...Lacking aftermath..." |
3 | 100% | "Typical praise..." |
4 | 150% | "Blessed meal." |
5 | 200% | "Holy Sanctuary!" |
Trivia[]
Etymology[]
The kanji for Juu-ichi Matsu-moto (松本 十一 matsumoto juuichi) literally translates to: ten, one, pine tree, book. The number 11 itself holds special properties, such as being the second unique prime number.
Quotes[]
Because of Juuichi's abstract speech, what he is really saying will be italicized in parenthesis.
- "Alias...Juuichi ELEVEN... (My name is...Juuichi ELEVEN.)"
- "Death Angel! (Reaper!)"
- "Demise...and retribution... (Fail...and correct the wrong...)"
- "Neku...green boy... (Neku...naive, young man...)"

Trivia[]
- While Juuichi wears mostly apparel from the Tigre Punks brand, it is not his favorite brand, neither does he have one from the start.
- Juuichi's surname, Matsumoto, is a reference to the famed visual kei singer hide, whose real name is Hideto Matsumoto (松本 秀人 Matsumoto Hideto). hide is considered as one of the founders of the Japanese visual kei movement, and his death in 1998 was considered as "the end of an era".
- Even after his death, the band he was in, X Japan, still considers him a member and introduces him at every concert, with the group going as far as to play audio/video clips of his voice/guitar for some songs.
- The name of his guitar, "Maria", has been hinted to being the name of his favorite song. But reporters have not been able to find out which song this could be.
- Before his death, Juuichi had planned to sing Schubert's "Ave Maria" at his next live as the intro song. Because he did not make note of this to his manager or even his bandmates, no one knew of this arrangement. "Ave Maria" is indeed his favorite song, and the reason why he named his guitar "Maria".
- Personal Note: Juuichi's appearance and personality is heavily influenced by Kiyoshi Date.
