The World Ends With You

"A young girl with a disease that drains her of healthy blood, Anna has lived a life of frailty. Yet she had hope in a brighter future. Even so, with her rare blood type, doctors were unable to keep a constant supply of the correct blood she was in need of, bringing her to her eventual death."
— Game manual description

Anna Chisato (血里アンナ chisato anna) is a custom character of The World Ends with You. A young girl commonly seen in Gothic-wear, pale skin and the looks of a 4th grader, the disease she is plagued with has given others the impression that she's a "Vampiress". Yet, she was optimistic and in a state of delusion, causing her to think that she was a true vampire. Upon entering the UG, her wish was granted and she has become a true blood-sucker.

Appearance[]

Anna is a young girl who can be categorized as a "lolita" for her short stature and underdeveloped body for a 16 year old. Along with that, due to the disease she has, her skin is always pale along with a frail looking body. Her hair is silver-blonde and reaches to her waist. With the addition of her Gothic attire, Anna has a true appearance of a "Vampiress".

Most of Anna's attire includes specially tailored mixes of Lapin Angelique's clothing. This include the mix of the Vampire Dress and the Lace-up Dress, the combination of the Ribbon Bonnet and the Ribbon Mini-hat, the mix of the Platform Shoes and Ribbon Shoes, and also a mini-size Frilly Parasol custom-attached to M'sieur Lapin. This is because she is the stores most popular customer.

Other normal pieces of attire includes a Frilly Parasol and the Cape.

Personality[]

Living most of the time sheltered in the hospital until her recent years, Anna is very anti-social. While she has an optimistic outlook of her own future, this optimism has changed into delusion, secluding herself in a world of warped truths. Taking in the rumors about her being a "Vampire", Anna took on the role, putting up an emotionless yet grim expression around people and wearing Gothic attire. She even made mentions or direct claims that she was an actual "Vampiress". With this, as she desired, some people feared her for being a true vampire.

But upon entering the UG, with her optimistic persona taken as the cost of entering the game, Anna's personality was changed from "grim and extravagant" to "stone-solid emotionless and nihilistic". Although still seemingly like a vampire, Anna only became more distant and mysterious from the people around she loved to flaunt her "uniqueness".

Background[]

Ever since she was young, Anna was plagued with a disease that caused her bloodstream to lack the ability to manufacture enough healthy blood. With the lack of blood, her skin was pale and her physical health was frail. Due to this, she remained in the hospital until her recent years, taking injections of blood every few months.

But after leaving the hospital as her vitality returned to somewhere close to an average girl of her age, she needed these injections more frequently. But, because her blood type is one of the rarest kinds, blood donors were scarce or even non-existent, and one day, doctors weren't able to supply her the blood she needed. With this, she died from the lack of healthy blood.

The cost of entering the UG was her optimistic attitude of a good future, causing her personality to become truly cold, depressing and nihilistic.

Statistics[]

Abilities[]

Anna fights using bats to attack her enemies. Her combo finisher involves inflicting a final "bite", stealing some of her enemies' health. Her attacks involve sending two bats per panel to attack enemies on one side, and for every bat on an enemy, the damage inflicted increases and also the health vamp by the finisher. A single enemy can only be attacked by 3 bats at one time.

Instead of jumping, Anna is able to "glide", allowing her to hover in the air with her "vampire wings". Her panels in the air summons three bats instead of two. Her combo finisher in the air is stronger as the bats on the enemy turn into wing-blades, slashing the enemy up but lacking the vampire-like health-drain. Her counter involves her sending backwards a swarm of bats, knocking enemies up. When defending herself, Ann protects herself with the Bat Barrier pin Twilight Veil.

Anna uses three pins to initiate her attacks: the Vitality Drain pin Hell Bats for ground attacks, ground finisher and air attacks; the Force Rounds pin Vampire Blade for her air finisher; the Air Wave pin Nocturne Swarm for her counter.

*Vitality Drain: This is a specialized psych non-existant in-game. Using the Touch-an-enemy command, this psych allows Neku (in this case Anna) to summon a bat(s) to attack the targeted enemy. See more here.
*Air Wave: Another specialized psych non-existent in-game. Using the Slash-sideways command , this psych allows Neku (in this case Anna) to summon a swarm of flying animals or a gust of wind to sweep at the targeted location. See more here.

Efficiency[]

Anna's panels are relatively weak, but increase for every bat on an enemy. Her finishers on the ground have an equally low effeciency, even with all three bats on a single enemy. This is a trade-off with her ability to heal herself (or Neku if she is at full health) with her finishers based on the damage inflicted. In the air though, because of the lack of the health-vamp, the efficiency of her air attacks is moderately high.

  • Ground Panel: 50% +25% per bat (Max: 125%)
  • Ground Finisher: 100% +50% per bat (Max: 250%)
  • Ground Health Vamp: 4% +2% per bat (9%/16%/25% "Efficiency")
  • Air Panel: 80% +40% per bat (Max: 200%)
  • Air Finisher: 225% +75% per bat (Max: 450%)

Fusion Stars[]

Anna gains fusion stars through Blood Transfusion. Her attacks offer a blood pack donor type, and she needs to match it appropriately with the given blood type above she needs to "donate" to. Look at this image to understand the system. Higher difficulties add other factors. She is rewarded more stars when she needs to donate to a rarer blood type.

Her fusion involves themes of blood and bats.

  • Level 1: Anna and Neku has a cloud of bats attack their enemies.
    • Anna: "Go forth, my bats."
    • Neku: "And make sure they don't bother me."
  • Level 2: Anna and Neku fly with wings as bats swarm the screen.
    • Anna: "Show them suffering."
    • Neku: "Just as much as we have suffered."
  • Level 3: Anna and Neku cloak themselves in dark wings, thereafter disappearing. Vampire eyes then glare upon the screen to inflict damage to all enemies.
    • Neku: "Drain them of all their blood!"
    • Anna: "Down to the last drop!"

Swags:[]

  • Fusion Boost Anna: Anna sticker. Increases Anna's max Fusion level. She receives one level for each sticker you collect. Each partner's fusions are based around a theme related to them. You'll be able to understand a bit more about them if you take note closely!
  • Safe Landing Anna: Anna sticker. If an enemy attack sends Anna flying, press a button to recover in midair and avoid getting knocked down. You can take extra damage if a knock-back attack sends you to the asphalt. Land safely to avoid getting kicked around!
  • Nocturne Swarm: Anna sticker. Press the button opposite the direction Anna is attacking and she will break her combo in order to summon a large swarm of bats to knock up enemies behind her. Neku's partner takes increased damage when attacked from behind. Use Nocturne Swarm to sweep away enemies attacking from behind!
  • Twilight Veil: Anna sticker. Press down on the +Control Pad (or the B Button) while she is idle and she will summon some bats to shield herself from enemy attacks, harming those who try. While Anna can keep herself protected with her bats, she cannot easily resume her offensive, so choose wisely when to go on the defensive!
  • Flight: Anna sticker. Press up on the +Control Pad (or the X Button) while she is idle and she will spread out her wings and hover in the air. If you want Anna to deal tons of damage instead of stealing health, allow her to take it to the skies, dominating from above!

Other Statistics[]

Base Stats[]

Anna has an unusual balance for her Brave stat: while she is able to wear the Lapin Angelique Brand with no issue, other brands tend to be harder for her to wear.

When applying her brave statistic of 52 BRV (along with a fourth of the player's max level when she joins), all Lapin Angelique Brands BRV cost will be deducted by two-thirds while other brands will be multiplied by ten folds, only during the week when the player is accompanied by her. Outside her week, she retains the Lapin Angelique deduction but receives no heightened requirement for other brands, making her brave relatively good although not exceptional.

Reflective of her physical health, Anna doesn't have an ample amount of defense, making her very vulnerable to any attack, even by the weakest of enemies. On the other hand, although she has at the beginning a relatively low attack stat, if this stat is developed enough, it will allow her to ignore her weak defenses as she restores her HP with strong attacks coupled with her innate life-steal capability. Even then, it is best to keep her defense stats in check.

Preferences[]

Anna's choices of clothes and food can be confusing at times, but two things are noticeable: she adores anything that is gothic and she has a hidden interest for things that are cute or sweet. Due to mostly being in the hospital, Anna has no interest in fashion aside from her gothic-wear. At times though, she may find clothes that are cute or for the young to be of interest, although she doesn't say it upfront.

The same goes for her choices in food. In most cases, she isn't fond of "normal" food, aside from items of British nature such as muffins and pumpkin soup. She hates anything bitter, and has taken a liking to certain sweet items. She can't stomach anything that is very heavy in calories, such as burgers and ramen.

Like/Dislike Levels
Level Multiplier Anna
1 50% "This is poison to my soul!"
2 75% "Why should I eat this?"
3 100% "Couldn't this be a bit better?"
4 150% "This is appetizing."
5 200% "This taste...it quelms my heart."

Trivia[]

Etymology[]

The kanji for Chi-sato (血里 chisato) literally translates to: blood, origin. The name "Chisato" makes reference to her "blood-sucking roots," although it is not fully true. "Anna" comes from the Latinate and New Testament form of Ann, from Ancient Greek Ἄννα (Ánna), equal to the Hebrew female name חַנָּה‎ (ḥannâ) of Old Testament, meaning "gracious."

Quotes[]

Many of what Anna says are either brutal-dominance or delusioned in nature. With the fact she says most of these coldly and with a straight-face can make some of the lines awkward.

  • "Are you the one who will be my servant? Then pay your respect to me."
  • "Noise? They are nothing more than whispers."
  • "I am a vampiress. It is common sense that I need blood."
  • "You are but a servant. I have no need to tell a servant about myself and my history."
  • "I...shall not...concede..."
  • "I would like what is over there, servant. Fetch me it."
  • "It dawns me that I have been a fool all this time, keeping this mask on to look "unique". I thank you for what you have done, mon cherie."

Trivia[]

  • She represents the Lapin Angelique Brand.
  • All of the pins Anna use are from the Lapin Angelique brand too (they are still neutral in element). She also claims that she can use other pins from the Lapin Angelique brand but prefers the combination she currently uses.
  • With her attacks, Anna is the only partner who is able to heal herself in battle without the need of a thread item.
  • Personal Note: Anna's name and appearance is influenced by Anna Kushina.
