"Yeah, I could try to be CAT with this pin. But why? Where's the enjoyment in that? I'd rather broaden my world my own way."
— Neku to Joshua

Turf is a day in The World Ends with You. For its equivalent in The Animation, see Turf.

Events[]

  • Hanekoma fixes the tracker so it tracks major plot points instead of minor plot points, and gives Neku's phone a camera.
  • Neku returns Rhyme's bell pendant to Beat.
  • Neku finds out Hanekoma is CAT.
  • Joshua reveals his true powers to Neku.
  • Kariya infers Joshua is playing alive.

Plot[]

Neku wakes up and listens to Joshua on the phone to Hanekoma, complaining about the glitched tracker and asking to come to WildKat Cafe and get it fixed. Neku thinks about his conclusion that Joshua killed him, and he needs to survive three more days to win. When Joshua is off the phone, Neku asks him what he's looking for. Joshua explains he wants to "jack Shibuya" - replace Shibuya's current Composer, which his phone has been tracking and why Sho Minamimoto is after him. Meanwhile, Kariya tells Uzuki about his plan to learn about Joshua and Neku with a mind game - Uzuki is bored and counts herself in.
Before they leave, Kariya and Uzuki set up a series of walls blocking the way to Cat Street. Uzuki finds the game boring and asks what's so important about Neku. When Kariya says it's the wrong kid, he tells her to wait and see. At the end of the game, Uzuki is interrupted by a phone call about Taboo Noise HQ has lost sight of. Uzuki starts moving, but Kariya says they should watch Joshua and Neku and let them be the bait.
At WildKat, Hanekoma takes Joshua and Neku's phones to fix. While waiting, Neku asks Joshua why he pacted with him and how Joshua was watching. Joshua explains that because of his ability to see the entire UG when alive, he met Hanekoma years ago to talk about the UG and slowly began to see its charm, concluding he belonged in the UG. Neku almost vocally accuses Joshua of murdering him, but is interrupted by Hanekoma. He decides to not mention it to Joshua with only two days until the end of the week.
On the way back to the Scramble Crossing, Beat attacks. When Joshua says attacking Player is a violation, Beat disregards them. Kariya and Uzuki try to stop him, but he declares he's on special orders from the Conductor. Neku asks Beat to stop and gives him Rhyme's pendant he dropped the day before - Beat sees it as an unfair bargain, but Neku says he's just returning something he's lost.
At Towa Records, Neku stops to look at CAT's latest album. Joshua mentions he doesn't know how CAT runs a café and is a city-famous artist at the same time, and reveals CAT is Hanekoma. Neku is excited and concludes CAT isn't the Composer as Hanekoma was helping Joshua to find the Composer. Neku explains CAT's appeal to Joshua of a constant, quality aesthetic, and speaking to people. Joshua tells Neku he could easily use his Player Pin to read what people are thinking, and while Neku externally agrees, he thinks about if it's really the right way. Joshua tells him to follow the signal to the Scramble.
Shibuya river

The entrance to the Shibuya river.

The signal leads to the Station Underpass, and Neku draws the line and declares he will take Joshua to the Shibuya River and help him no further. Joshua sees its blocked and as he and Neku leave, they're attacked by a Trance Rhino. The Rhino is powerful, and an outmatched Joshua says he was hoping to avoid "this", before leaping towards the Trance Rhino and summoning a beam of light that vaporizes the Rhino.
Epic Joshua

Joshua reveals his true power.

Kariya appears and congratrulates them, then confronts Joshua and tells him that alive Players are rule-breakers punishable by erasure, but excuses it for erasing the troublesome rhino. He promises that the next time they break the rules, they'll be erased by Uzuki, then leaves. Joshua admits that he found out how to play alive through a loophole and therefore is an illegal Player without a Player Pin. He tries to convince Neku that their pact is valid and it's not a problem, but Neku is angry over how Joshua is playing for fun while he and his friends didn't choose and are suffering. When Neku yells at Joshua for killing him, Joshua asks what he'd do if he did kill Neku.
So what if i killed you

Walkthrough[]

Move towards Shibu Dept. Store and Uzuki will begin her wall gauntlet towards Cat Street - the Reaper blocking the exit to Shibu Dept. Store wants D+B to be the number one brand. The Reaper at Shibu Dept. Store wants ramen he can "taste the sea" with. Give him Shio Ramen. The Reaper at Cadoi City blocking the entrance to Towa Records will give a Reaper Review about Ramen Don. The answers are "Ken Doi", "Insta-noodles", and "580". The Reaper at Towa Records wants Neku dressed entirely in Mus Rattus threads. Play Tin Pin with the Reaper at Miyashita Park Underpass - losing to him is a requirement for the Biker's Gloves, an item needed for the Secret Reports, but winning earns a Tin Pin Thrift as a reward. The Reaper at Miyashita Park gives a battle with Carcinofolk, Carcinosamps, and Carcinoska with only Onmyo and Frantic. After defeating them, go into WildKat. Begin going back to the scramble. At Miyashita Park Underpass, Beat will attack. As with all Reaper Beat fights defeating him isn't needed - simply survive for 30 seconds. Return to the Scramble, then head towards to the Station Underpass. When leaving, a Trance Rhino will attack. Simply survive its attacks to end the chapter.
