The Social Network is an advancement mechanic in NEO: The World Ends with You which unlocks various additional items and Quality of Life features based on encounters with characters.
In order to gain a bonus from a character in the Social Network, the player must have:
- Unlocked that character, usually by completing a side quest for them on a particular day.
- Created a link to that character, by encountering other characters connected to them.
- Spent a given number of Friendship Points on that character. These are earned in the same side missions that unlock characters, plus some main missions and some optional Dive missions.
Note that while it may be necessary to have links through other characters in order to unlock a target character, it is not necessary to have spent the points to unlock the connecting characters. It is also not advised to spend Friendship Points on items or restaurant upgrades in the initial playthrough. They should be saved for system upgrades that may unlock later in the story.
The characters and their bonuses available are:
Difficulty and Systems[]
- Rindo Kanade: HP Viewer. A bar appears above the head of each enemy in combat indicating its remaining HP. This excludes boss enemies, who receive a "Boss HP" gauge at the top of the screen.
- Tosai "Fret" Furesawa: Easy Difficulty. The easy difficulty, which offers easier fights at reduced reward, becomes available. Easy Difficulty causes Noise to do half damage but also awards half XP and only Easy pins can be obtained.
- Sho Minamimoto: Hard Difficulty. The hard difficulty, which offers a better range of pin rewards, becomes available. On Hard Difficulty, Noise does double damage and players do 75% damage, XP is multiplied by 150%, and Hard pins can be obtained.
- Kohei Toyohashi, Ayano Kamachi: HP Retainer. Retains more HP when lowering level.
- Yoko Norimoto, MKN: Plentiful Pins. Boosts the increase to pin drop rate when lowering level.
- Eiji Oji: ShibuPay Autoload. Yen pins are automatically converted to money when acquired without needing to be sold.
- Eiru, Hide Takenouchi: ShibuPay Expansion. Increases the amount of money you can store in your digital wallet.
- Koki Kariya: Tasty Treats. Eating a character's favorite foods gives them a greater boost.
- Yoshiya "Joshua" Kiryu: ULTIMATE Difficulty. Makes battles even tougher, but provides even more EXP and an even wider variety of pins. Noise does 250% damage and the player does 50% damage, but XP is doubled and all pins are available.
Battle and Beatdrops[]
- Nagi Usui: Regroup and Retry. Upon a game over, the player can change pins, threads, and difficulty and retry battles.
- Tanzo Kubo, Seiji-of-Some-Trades, Tsukihime: Chain Extender. Increases the maximum chain number by 5 for each unlock.
- Daisukenojo "Beat" Bito: Divine Dodge. Increases the amount of time you're invincible after dodging.
- Manami Akita: Best Buds. Increases groove from Beatdrops performed by Rindo and Fret.
- Raimu "Rhyme" Bito: FanGO Fanatics. Increases groove from Beatdrops performed by Rindo and Shoka.
- Shiki Misaki: Elegant Strategists. Increases groove from Beatdrops performed by Nagi and Minamimoto.
- machastree: Girl Power. Increases groove from Beatdrops performed by Nagi and Shoka.
- Coco Atarashi: Lethal Legends. Increases groove from Beatdrops performed by Neku and Beat.
- Honoka Kondo: Lives of the Party. Increases groove from Beatdrops performed by Fret and Beat.
- Neku Sakuraba: Protag Partners. Increases groove from Beatdrops performed by Neku and Rindo.
Pins and Threads[]
- Uzuki Yashiro: Brand Synergy. Increases a given brand's pin power when three or more of that brand's pins are worn in the same deck.
- Kanon Tachibana, Fuya Kawahara, Shiba Miyakaze, Kaichi "Susukichi" Susuki, Taka the Handyman, Go Midoriyama: Uber Pin Unlock. The team can equip one more Uber Pin.
- Yuika Kaga: Garage Sale. An option appears in the pins menu and shop menus to automatically sell all non-mastered duplicate pins.
- Shinji-of-Some-Trades, Riko Sekinohara: ShibuPay Bonus. Increases selling prices for pins.
- Shuntaro Harima, Hishima Sakazuki: Bonus Deck. Adds a bonus pin deck.
- Shoka Sakurane, Tsugumi Matsunae: Pin Multi-Wield. The player can equip more than one pin with the same input button. This causes both pins to fire when the button is pressed.
- Marino Orihara: Evolutionary Secrets Displays the conditions required for certain pins to evolve and mutate.
- Katsuhiko Tanimaru: AutoStyle. The threads menu gains an option to automatically equip clothing for optimal stats.
Exploration and Noise[]
- Reaper: Formidable Footing. When sent flying in combat, press B or the Cross Button to recover.
- Reaper Commentator: Super SoundSurf. The Groove bonuses from using Beat's Soundsurf is increased.
- Kaie Ono: Pigdar. An icon appears in the corner of the screen when a Pig Noise exists in the current location.
- Miss Banks, It-Boy Kashiki: Dive Extension. Adds more time to Dive time limits.
- Motoi Anazawa, Sumio Tanaka: Noise Magnet. Holding ZR/R2 while exploring pulls Noise towards Rindo.
- Itsuki Kaneda: Beatdrop Bonus. Adds a "sweet spot" to the Beatdrop gauge which gives even greater Groove.
- Maito Minami: Pigtionary. Displays which days contain undefeated Pig Noise on the Chapters menu.
- Hazuki Mikagi: Bossy Noise. Causes blue Boss Noise to appear in previous chapters.
