- Rieko's surname Kawahara means "river, stream" (河) (kawa) and "field, plain" (原) (hara), which literally means "river beach, dry riverbed" altogether.

- Rieko has the same surname spelled with identical kanji as Fuya Kawahara. Due to her social network stating the fact she was married, it is possible that she and Fuya were in a relationship prior to Fuya entering the Reaper's Game.
- Her yagasuri-patterned kimono also hints at her marriage: Yagasuri is a common pattern for bridal kimonos based on an Edo-period belief that a bride who left her parent's house for marriage wearing such a kimono would not return, just like how a shot arrow the pattern is based on never returns[1].
