"I can't afford to screw around on this! I'm not letting anything jeopardize this game."
Neku to Joshua

Reapers is a day in The World Ends with You. For its corresponding episode in The Animation, see Reapers (Episode).

Events[]

  • Taboo Noise begin attacking Players and Reapers.
  • Neku begins suspecting Joshua for his death.
  • Neku learns he died in Udagawa.
  • Neku learns how to play Tin Pin.

Plot[]

Kariya and Uzuki check the routes to learn that the Game Master, Sho Minamimoto, has sealed almost all of them. Uzuki is frustrated over how she's losing opportunities for points, but Kariya is happy to slack off. Kariya suddenly yells and warns Uzuki to look out.

Neku wakes up in the Scramble Crossing. His partner, Joshua, is calling someone on his phone. Neku is confused since there's no-one to call in the UG; he gets concerned when Joshua starts speaking about the mission that he's a reporter for the Reapers. Remembering he was able to Scan the Player Pin-less Joshua, Neku looks into his mind and sees a thought fragment of a Player Pin falling on Neku, lying on the ground at Udagawa. He can't remember why he was at Udagawa or what he was doing there, and gets scared Joshua saw him die - or maybe kill him. While thinking about how to find out, the mission mail comes in. Joshua asks Neku to forget about the mission for today; Neku is furious and Joshua downplays it.

Neku begins recounting to Joshua his entry fee being Shiki Misaki. After defeating Higashizawa, Neku and Shiki woke up in a bright room and reunited with Beat. The Conductor, Megumi Kitaniji, reveals the Composer has mandated that only one person may be reincarnated. While Shiki is arguing about the cruelty of it, Beat asks Kitaniji to become a Reaper. Shiki is chosen to be reincarnated as she graded the highest-performing Player - Neku decides he'll re-enter the Game and come see Shiki at the Statue of Hachiko after he wins. She floats up in the air, holding her hand out to Neku before vanishing. Kitaniji returns Neku's entry fee of his memories except the ones about his death and announces he has already taken the second entry fee, being Shiki. Joshua is unsympathetic. Neku makes a deal with Joshua that they'll first clear the mission then do what Joshua wants.

The mission mail says to acquire the "√3 Au pin" - Neku recalls Au is the symbol for gold, and the square root of 3 is 1.7320508. Neku theorizes its a type of entry code, but Joshua tells him the Reapers use "routes" to refer to Shibuya's streets - Route 3 leads from Cadoi City to Molco. At Shibu Dept. Store they erase the negative Noise possessing a boy named Yammer. He resolves to "go for gold" and win the Hero Pin at the Molco slam-off. They realise this pin is the one asked for in the mission, and head to Molco.

The Tin Pin Slam-Off.

Kariya and Uzuki catch their breath on a rooftop after running away from a Noise that attacks Reapers - Kariya knows this to be Taboo Noise. Uzuki calls headquarters. At Cadoi City, Neku and Joshua are attacked by a strange black Noise, the Eurobeat Boomer. Joshua notices that he could do more damage when he was in Sync with Neku, and wonders why Noise was directly attacking them.

Shooter's sketch

Shooter's attempts to teach Neku how to play Tin Pin.

At Molco, Neku enters a Tin Pin Slammer competition. He meets a young boy, Shooter, who teaches him how to play. He wins his first round against Yammer and continues onto the semifinals which happen to be Shooter. Defeated, Neku apologizes to Shiki for losing. In the final match, Shooter's pins won't work and he loses against Sota Honjo. The timers on their hands vanish, and Neku realizes Sota is a Player as well who cleared the mission.

Outside, Joshua reveals he sabotaged Shooter's equipment so he'd lose. While leaving for the Scramble, Minamimoto appears and yells at Neku and Joshua, taunting them. When he leaves, Neku thinks that if Joshua is a spy for the Reapers, then it might be why Minamimoto is following them.

The Slime

Beat sits on a rooftop staring at a Pin. He thinks of the orders Kitaniji gave him, to destroy his former friend Neku to prove his loyalty as a Reaper. Beat is determined and says he didn't become a Reaper for nothing.

Walkthrough[]

After the opening cutscenes, scan Joshua. Close out of the scanning screen. Move to Shibu Dept. Store - a wall Reaper wants the negative Noise possessing the businessman and Yammer erased. At Cadoi City, a Eurobeat Boomer will attack. The best way to damage it is have Joshua hit it while holding the Light Puck in the DS version or use Cross Combos in Solo Remix and Final Remix. At Molco, enter the slam-off. Shooter will give a Tin Pin tutorial - after playing with him, select "That's enough". While there's one match where the Tin Pin minigame is played, the events are the same despite winning or losing. After the slam-off, exit Molco to end the day.

The Pig Noise in this chapter needed for the Secret Reports are at the bottom of the Molco phone booth, on the hot dog of the Mexican Dog sign, and at the top-left corner of Tipsy Tose Hall. Sho Minamimoto (Taboo) can be fought at Tipsy Tose Hall, and Supermask's Mask can be gotten by entering Mexican Dog.

Trivia[]

  • At the beginning of the day, Uzuki brandishes her gun and jokes about "hop over to the RG. Use this baby to recruit a few new Players..." Kariya stops her and says Reapers aren't allowed to kill people in the Realground. Ironically, Week 2 and The World Ends with You as a whole is centric over Neku's death - that is, a denizen of the UG killing a RG person.
  • Kariya recognises the Taboo Noise immediately, but Joshua doesn't know what they are despite being Composer.[1][2] Kariya could have possibly been a Reaper before Joshua became Composer.
  • The wall clearing requirement to clear the wall from Molco to Spain Hill, namely having a Definitivo Chili Dog in your inventory, may appear to require the required item to be obtained on a different day at first glance. This is due to Spain Hill itself being the only location to obtain it and Center St. Entrance, the only other path to Spain Hill, initially being blocked by a wall whose Reaper won't speak to you. In reality though, because defeating the Taboo Noise also causes the wall to disappear, Spain Hill can be accessed without clearing the Molco wall.
  • An extra scene of dialogue can be seen if Neku enters Center St. Entrance before defeating the Eurobeat Boomers and sees the wall Reaper there only to return after the battle to see the wall removed. This scene sees Joshua reminding Neku that the two of then aren't the only players.
