Reaper pin comic

Rindo holding a Reaper Pin.

The Reaper Pin is a Pin in NEO: The World Ends with You. Similar to a Player Pin in The World Ends with You, it is proof that a Player has been approved to participate in the Reapers' Game, regardless if they are dead or not. They are also called Player Pins, but are not the same type of Pin from the first game. They allow Players to scan people in the RG and also draws out their latent psychic power. Rindo's Replay ability was educed by his Reaper Pin.

The Reaper Pins were engineered by Tanzo Kubo for the express purpose of luring living people with potential (Imagination) into the Game, especially the "legendary ex-Player" Neku Sakuraba being the main target in particular who Kubo hope to recruit to become a Reaper, as well as see the legend for himself. When a Reaper Pin is disposed of, the corresponding Player will immediately return to the RG if they were brought in without dying, but Kubo lied that Players may be erased if they do in order to keep his victims to play the Game.

Both Kubo and Shiba Miyakaze take credit for distributing the pins. However, Yoshiya "Joshua" Kiryu was the one to give Rindo Kanade the special Reaper Pin that would contain Soul Pulvis, as Joshua is seen handing the pin back to him after he drops it.

Trivia[]

Reaper Pin Mutation

An animated demonstration of Rindo's Reaper Pin changing over time into the symbol of the Phoenix Cantus.

  • Over the course of the Game, the symbol of Rindo's Reaper Pin subtly changes every time he uses his Replay ability (which is reflected in the scan icon becoming its current design) until it becomes the Phoenix Cantus symbol.
    • If the player has completed the main storyline and revisits past days, the scan icon will always be the Reaper Pin's default symbol.
  • The evolution of the Reaper Pin's symbol is similar to the l'Cie brands from another Square title, Final Fantasy XIII, becoming more intricate and detailed as time passes.
