Piercing Pillar is a negative psych. There are two distinct activations of Piercing Pillar. The first, known as Piercing Pillar S, requires the player to slash up or diagonally up on an empty space or enemy. The second, known as Piercing Pillar R, requires the player to quickly tap at least six times on an empty space or enemy. Piercing Pillar S pins are categorized under A class, while Piercing Pillar R pins are categorized under Reaper class. Therefore, it is possible to have both a Piercing Pillar S pin and a Piercing Pillar R pin in the same deck.
Analysis
This psych is one of the most confusing to players who are not familiar with psych efficiency. Piercing Pillar S pins have low ATK, but because they have 100% efficiency, the single hit (or multiple hits with Ice Risers) will deal a siginificant amount of damage. Piercing Pillar S is mainly used as a puck passer to take advantage of the single hit.
Piercing Pillar S vs. Piercing Pillar R
This is the standard skill test for The World Ends with You players. Many people assume that Piercing Pillar R is superior because their pins have higher pin ATK and more uses. Unfortunately, its 50% efficiency, longer activation time, and abysmal reboot times doom Piercing Pillar R to gimmick status. Always use Piercing Pillar S over Piercing Pillar R.
Black Uranus (planet set)
At 300% efficiency, Black Uranus is the most powerful pin in the Darklit Planets set, which also makes it one of the best pins in the game. Only Anguis or a fully charged Dope Line deal more damage. It is one of the few pins capable of dealing four digits of damage with a 5x puck on ultimate difficulty.
Black Uranus (alone) vs. Ice Risers
Black Uranus is also an excellent pin when used by itself, though it cannot be obtained in the maingame except via mingle shop. All three Ice Risers icicles will hit for 100% efficiency, but it is not a clear-cut winner. Some people prefer Black Uranus because it provides a slightly longer juggling window, which in the hands of a skilled player, may result in more damage than two additional icicles. If the player cannot take advantage of this, Ice Risers is the pin of choice.
Note that it is possible to control the spawn direction of Ice Risers' icicles. By slashing up-left, the icicles will appear from right to left. By slashing up-right, the icicles will appear from left to right. This can possibly help when you need control of where the noise goes during juggling, but could also mess the juggle up if not used effectively.
