Believed to have been made by Sanjo Kokaji Munechika, the famed smith of the Heian Era said to have had the divine help of kami such as Inari, the fox goddess of prosperity, and Hachiman, the god of war, to aid in forging his blades. Famous as one of the early great smiths of katana along with Amakuni Yasutsuna and the founder of the Yamashiro School of the Great Five Schools of Swordsmithing. |
