Nexus Ray is a negative-based psych. To activate it, press and hold the stylus in a direction, Neku will face in that direction and begin to charge a shot. Once the charge is complete, Neku will fire a thin beam in a horizontal line, damaging all enemies in its path.
Analysis[]
Nexus Ray has high attack power and an excellent 100% efficiency. Unfortunately, it has two significant drawbacks: charge time and accuracy. The thin beam cannot be aimed at any angle, so Neku must be directly facing the enemy before firing. It does not have any area damage, so the thin beam must touch an enemy in order to damage it. As a ranged puck finisher, it is usually better to use Burst Rounds pins instead.
Anguis[]
Anguis is a postgame pin. When mastered, it has a whopping 999 ATK - highest in the game. This also makes it the pin with the third-most powerful single shot, following Egg Bomb's secondary collision damage with heavier Obstacles and high character attack and/or trend and resonance boosts, and Dope Line with trend and resonance boosts and/or high character attack.
Using Anguis plus the Eden set (automatic 5X puck), then equipping Neku with SOS threads, is a method to quickly one-shot many of the bosses in the game and record low clear times in the Noise report.
Anguis cannot reboot, so it is recommended to use either Turbo Gauge pin to gain a second use out of Anguis.
Universal Ray vs. Tin Pin Bahamut[]
If intending to use Nexus Ray during normal gameplay or Final Time Attack, Anguis' lack of reboot makes it impractical for chain battles, thus bringing the remaining three pins into consideration.
Big Bang and Big Crunch have an Attack of 250 and last three uses, compared to Tin Pin Bahamut's 150 Attack and single use. However, Bahamut takes up a single pin slot and reboots in half the time of Big Bang and Big Crunch, which must both be in the same deck in order to function. Ultimately, the decision depends on the individual player's choice of multiple shots in quick succession, or gradual shots over the course of a battle.
