Mark City in reality.
Mark City is a location in Shibuya that appears in The World Ends with You and its anime. In the game, it uses the alias Pork City and in the anime, it uses its real name Mark City.
Description[]
Joshua states that all of the stray thoughts of Shibuya flow through Pork City, rise up above, then come crashing back down, "always building, never lessening". When fighting Noise inside the building, the backdrops don't show the environment but instead are replaced with monochromatic versions of other locations, with a different location for each floor. The location typically reflects the location of the main store for the floor's brand, though not always.
Events[]
The World Ends with You[]
Pork City can only be accessed in Week 2, Day 7 and Another Day.
In Week 2 Day 7, Joshua and Neku go there for the first time in a mission written by Megumi Kitaniji to defeat the Game Master, Sho Minamimoto, hiding there. Despite not being Taboo, it is impossible to escape from Noise fights in Pork City. The Reapers are surprised that Players are at Pork City because they were never told to expect them, but lets them go if they defeat all the Noise on the floors. On this day, only two floors on Pork City are accessible. Only Mus Rattus and Unbranded pins work on the first floor, and only D+B and Unbranded pins work on the second floor. At the rooftop, Minamimoto gives Neku memories that makes him believe he killed him, fights Joshua and Neku, and attacks them with a level i flare after being defeated. Joshua pretends to sacrifice himself for Neku and Minamimoto is erased.
Another Day[]
In This Day Ends with You!, the player has to go through thirteen floors. On each floor, except for the roof, only pins of a certain brand will work, while unbranded pins work on every floor. Each floor's battles appear to take place at a specific location, though with the background greyscaled.
- 1st floor: Mus Rattus - Tipsy Tose Hall
- 2nd floor: D+B - 104 Building
- 3rd floor: Jupiter of the Monkey - Cat Street
- 4th floor: Natural Puppy - Cadoi City
- 5th floor: Hip Snake - Towa Records
- 6th floor: Wild Boar - Udagawa Back Streets
- 7th floor: Pegaso - Shibu Dept. Store
- 8th floor: Sheep Heavenly - Molco
- 9th floor: Dragon Couture - Shibukyu Main Store
- 10th floor: Pavo Real - Statue of Hachiko
- 11th floor: Lapin Angelique - A-East
- 12th floor: Tigre Punks - AMX
- 13th floor: Gatito - Scramble Crossing
Every floor in Pork City consists of six Red Noise Symbols. After erasing all of them, a Pig Noise symbol appears at the center of the floor-space (two on the 13th floor), which need to be erased as well. After erasing all of the Noise on that floor, talking to the Reaper blocking the elevator who will allow entry to the next floor and give a food item. After having cleared Pork City once in Another Day, speaking to the Reaper at each floor will clear the floor without needing to fight any Noise.
General Strategy[]
Due to the different brand restrictions in Pork City it would be wise to use a deck consisting of unbranded pins which work on every floor. Fortunately two pins with the powerful Flame Blast psych (area damage + 74 % efficiency) - Drake and Tin Pin Sunscorch - don't have a brand. Drake is much more powerful but due to its Angel Class only one can be used in a deck. Tin Pin Sunscorch is B-class, so theoretically two of them could be used in the same deck, but one Drake alongside of a Tin Pin Sunscorch are sufficient - their low reboot times make it possible to infinitely use one up after the other. If done correctly (use Sub-slot to force this) the first will have reloaded again after the second got depleted.
One, or if possible two of the unbranded Vortex Saber pins Tin Pin Blade, which have an excellent efficiency of 100 %, are useful against the Noise Brassbanfrog (and especially its bubbles) which absorbs attacks from Negative (long-ranged) psychs like Flame Blast and multiple appear in nearly every noise symbol in Pork City. Vortex Saber Pins also have very low reboot times. With the correct pin management it is possible to infinitely use one up after the other. After one is emptied the second Tin Pin Blade will already have reloaded again. On the Tigre Punks floor (No. 12) it's generally a good idea to replace any Tin Pin Blade pins with the stronger Vortex Saber Pins Lightning Anger or even better, its Battle PP evolution Lightning Rage.
Because of their high efficiency and low reboot times, having these four pins in a deck usually is sufficient to get through Pork City. As for the fights, erase the Brassbanfrogs last. Like all frog Noise its extremely mobile, so its attacked in the beginning of a fight it's highly likely it will regain health when another enemy is attacked with a Negative psych like Flame Blast. In versions with the Partner Pin, Brassbanfrogs (and Pork City Noise as a whole) can be erased relatively easily by choosing Beat as Partner and combining him with the Flame Blast pins. Both get activated simultaneously by using the press command which automatically leads to a powerful Cross Combo series even the Brassbanfrog can't absorb. Here, the Vortex Saber Pins are only needed when Beat's gauge is reloading. This strategy also works well against the Pork City Pig Noise. Moving pigs get stunned by the cross combos and are unable to run off the screen while taking constant damage from the attacks. This even works on Pig Carol, because Beat's Cross Combo attacks will still deal constant damage.
9th floor (Dragon Couture)[]
On the Dragon Couture floor (No. 9) it's possible to replace a Tin Pin Sunscorch pin with its stronger flame blast counterpart Blue Blood Burns Blue while keeping Drake. This is a double-edged sword though - while Blue Blood Turns Blue has a higher damage output, it is outclassed by Tin Pin Sunscorch in terms of limit and reboot time. The 7 seconds reboot time of Blue Blood Turns Blue make it impossible to infinitely cast flames, thus trapping the player into situations while both Flame Blast Gauges will be in a state of reloading.
It's possible to circumvent this by using two Blue Blood Turns Blue pins alongside of a Drake (use Sub-Slot again to ensure organized pin depletion). Adding the Dragon Couture pin makes this a very powerful offensive deck with a high damage output against every Pork City Noise but the Brassbanfrog. Preferably two additional pins with Positive or Neutral psychs are still needed to be able to deal with the latter, so having the 5th and 6th pin slot already available is highly recommended for this setting.
If comfortable with the Dragon Couture Psychokinesis pins, they can be used instead of the otherwise recommended Vortex Saber Pins. Due to being activated by (at least) two tapping commands (first the object, then empty space) they are harder to control than other Psychokinesis Pins. But if they're used they have low reboot times, a whopping efficiency of 230% and a Neutral psych that heavily harms every enemy regardless of its (Positive/Negative) resistances. Out of the three Dragon Couture Psychokinesis Pins Local Fire, Distant Sea has the highest damage output. In tandem with these pins, wear at least one of the three Threads which make obstacles on the battlefield more durable, in order to prevent them from vanishing before the Brassbanfrogs have been erased. See Dragon Lady, Simple Mules and/or Ninja Garb.
Roof[]
Sanae Hanekoma from the main world in The World Ends with You is hiding on Pork City's rooftop to avoid his parallel self in Another Day reporting him as a fallen Angel. After a conversation between him and the Neku from the Another Day parallel world, he attacks as the ultimate enemy, Panthera Cantus. In this encounter all brand restrictions are lifted. It is necessary to change out the pin loadout before going to the roof, because it's not possible to access the menu once going up unless through (S) Retry Battles.
