The Kindred Spirits are a team of Tin Pin Slammer players created during the events of This Day Ends with You! to take back the souls (pins) stolen by the Black Skullers.
Story[]
During the Slam-Off at Molco, the Black Skullers sprang a trap and stole the pins of all the participants (except for Neku Sakuraba). Shuto Dan invited Neku to Ramen Don's in an effort to get the pins back, and Neku played along because he didn't want to be seen as a suspect in the theft since his pins were left untouched.
At Ramen Don's, Dan reveals that he had rounded up a bunch of fellow Tin Pin Slammers who were robbed. Among them are Yoshiya "Joshua" Kiryu, Shiki Misaki and Beat. Dr. Pin joins the fun, telling the Spirits that their best bet is to use the fact that Neku still has his pins to start playing Tin Pin around town like crazy in order to draw out the Black Skullers.
Soon enough, they find Rhyme, who reveals that her pins were stolen by one of the Black Skullers. Dan allows her to join the Spirits, only for Rhyme to later reveal herself as a spy for the Skullers and smash Dan's Red Kaiser Shooter. With Dan dismayed by the loss of his shooter, they return to Ramen Don's, where Ken Doi reveals his past as a developer for Tin Pin Slammer and presents the group with the "New" Solid Slammers.
With the "New" Solid Slammers in hand, the Spirits find the Skullers in Miyashita Park, and challenge them to a winner-take-all contest for the pins. During the battle, Yodai Higashizawa reveals that he was never on the Skullers side and has every intention of purifying Tin Pin. However, Dr. Pin Jr. comes to the rescue with a brand new Slammer for Dan, Omega Kaiser Phoenix. With the new slammer, Dan defeats Higashizawa, and the pins are returned to their owners.
Afterwards, Dan and Neku have one last slamoff, and then the Spirits are challenged by the Wizard of Slam.
