Plot[]

Neku and Joshua at the Scramble Crossing play Tin Pin to decide what to do; wait for the mission, or follow Joshua's tracker. Neku wins, and Joshua complains about how Neku has suddenly gotten so good at Tin Pin. Neku's dismissive and says since he won, they'll wait another hour for the mission. Joshua complains it's a big waste of time, and Neku thinks if he keeps pressuring Joshua he'll be bound to crack.
At Dead God's Pad, Mitsuki Konishi and Megumi Kitaniji meet. Konishi reports fourteen Players have been erased, and Megumi comments that it's due to Minamimoto's genius. She tells him despite the alarming erasure rate, no missions have been issued for two days and Minamimoto is AWOL, breaking off contact on Day 3. Due to his trash piles still being present in the UG, it's suspected he's still in the area. Megumi decides to leave Minamimoto be. Konishi reports that several Reapers were attacked on Route 5, and Taboo Noise is suspected. The losses aren't severe, and she's set out to investigate the correlation between dwindling Player counts and the attack on the Reapers.
Back at the Scramble, fifteen minutes after their Tin Pin match, Joshua tries to call Hanekoma while he waits for the mission mail. He hangs up, then asks Neku if he can do him a favor. Neku says he's not listening if it's about the wait, and Joshua proposes a trade. Neku says he'll go if Joshua answers what he's after. Joshua explains he wants to jack Shibuya, which is why he's looking for the Shibuya River. In exchange, Joshua asks if Neku really wants a second chance if there's nothing for him in the RG. Neku is rendered speechless while Joshua focuses on the tracker signal coming from around Shibu-Q Heads, putting it near Udagawa.
When Neku and Joshua get to Tipsy Tose Hall, they notice some Reapers arguing. Trying to slip into Shibu-Q Heads, they get caught by 777, BJ, and Tenho. 777 gets Tenho to put up a wall blocking Udagawa, forcing Joshua and Neku to help them out. 777 explains the day before they had a 2:00 performance at Molco and their microphone was stolen at the end. BJ returns Tenho's lost phone, but when Tenho asks where it was, BJ panics and nervously answers Spain Hill before leaving for A-East.
Joshua and Neku start by questioning 777; he explains he got a call from a public phone where an affected voice ordered him to go to Cadoi City. 777 went down to Cadoi City, and upon returning to Molco, the mic was gone. He tells Joshua and Neku he suspects BJ, who has been wanting to do vocals.
Tenho is at Spain Hill, and explains that the microphone was bought by Def Märch back when they first started busking - but now 777 and BJ are constantly fighting over the vocals, which upsets Tenho. Joshua asks if he's happy the object dividing the band was out of the picture, and Tenho suspiciously answers he's not that happy. His alibi for 2:00 yesterday was Spain Hill, where he guesses was where he lost his phone. He goes back to Tipsy Tose Hall with 777 because he can't find the microphone.
At Molco, Neku points out the phone booth but gets cut off by two Players, which Joshua remembers as the winners of the slam-off, Sota and Nao. Sota warns Neku that Players are getting wiped out despite the lack of missions, and Nao mentions how they fled Taboo Noise they saw earlier. When Sota says that they'll just have to stick together, Joshua corrects him saying that if multiple Players survive, only a select few get to go back to the RG. Nao, upon learning it's Neku's second chance at the Game, tells him that at least his partner got back. Neku says she got taken as his entry fee and blames himself, but gets cut off by Sota, who believes that if she was his entry fee, he must've cared a lot about her. Sota declares that even if it is true, he's not sabotaging other Players. Nao gifts Neku Tin Pin Golem, the pin they won at the slam-off, before she leaves with Sota.
Joshua demonstrates the other new feature Hanekoma added on his phone at the phone booth - a camera that can take photos of the past. He sets the time to 1:45 p.m. yesterday, which shows the empty phone booth. Neku, unimpressed, asks what's so special, and Joshua sets it to 1:55 p.m., which shows the microphone in the phone booth along with a cell phone. He takes a third photo at 2:02 p.m., with BJ in the phone booth holding the cellphone. The microphone is gone, replaced with a blue megaphone. Joshua ponders the suspicious photo and Neku tells Joshua to take another one. Joshua explains Hanekoma put a three shots per day limit on the camera. Neku tries to use his phone but realizes Hanekoma didn't put a camera on his.

They go to the Scramble Crossing and find BJ, who said he'd be at A-East. BJ insists the microphone isn't stolen and 777 simply misplaced it. When Joshua asks about his alibi, he says he was at Dogenzaka lining up for the new ramen place. Joshua shows him the 2:02 p.m. photo and grills him about his call. BJ admits he went there to confess his love and got rejected, but snaps that they can't tell anyone. He storms off to Tipsy Tose Hall. With all suspects interrogated and evidence collected, Joshua and Neku go back to 777 as well.
777 is just about to call the police when Joshua and Neku arrive. Joshua confidently says that they've identified the thief, recapping that the theft happened at 2:00 when 777 received the strange phone call. Using the 2:02 p.m. photo, they prove BJ was at the phone booth, but because the call 777 got was at 1:40, he wasn't there to call 777. Instead, Joshua focuses on the cell phone in BJ's hand; the 1:55 photo proves that the cell phone was sitting on top of the phone booth. BJ, noticing it was Tenho's phone, grabbed it so he could return it, but lied he found it in Spain Hill because he didn't want to admit getting rejected.
Joshua asks why Tenho left his cell phone in the phone booth, and he confesses that because he hated seeing 777 and BJ fight, he hid the microphone in the phone booth. 777 asks for it back, and Tenho says it got stolen. He explains he went to the phone booth to make the suspicious call to 777, but on his way to hide it, he saw 777 returning and panicked. Tenho hid in the phone booth, got the call from 777 that the mic was stolen, and left the microphone in there, along with his phone. When Tenho returned to the phone booth, it was gone, replaced with a megaphone with some strange recordings; Minamimoto reciting trigonometric functions.
Joshua tells Neku to accuse the culprit, and Neku says nobody from Def Märch stole the microphone. At 1:57 p.m., between Tenho going back to 777 and BJ going to confess to his crush, Minamimoto went into the phone booth and decided to take the microphone left there, swapping it with his megaphone. Joshua tells them that knowing Minamimoto, he probably put it in the nearby trash heap. 777 orders BJ and Tenho to search the heap, and Tenho lets down the wall.
At Shibu-Q Heads, Beat ambushes Neku and Joshua. Neku begs him to not fight because he has to win for him and Shiki. Beat attacks and leaves shortly after, frustrated with how weak Joshua and Neku are. Neku wonders why Beat wants to erase him, meaning Shiki would be lost as well. Joshua picks up a pendant, which Neku recognises as Rhyme's bell pendant. Neku thinks Beat must've had a reason to join the Reapers and resolves to return it.
When they first walk into Udagawa, Joshua asks if Neku knows it well. Neku says he used to come here after school by himself, and Joshua says Neku is cut-off like Shibuya's UG. He explains the UG is split into different areas, Shibuya just one of them. They all have different rules, are impossible to travel between, and don't interfere with other UGs. Joshua concludes with how people will never truly understand each other with their own worlds, and Neku agrees due to how he discovered a new philosophy through CAT's mural; "Do what you want, how you want, when you want it." Joshua concurs it's easier to live by your own rules, not caring about other's values. Neku is lost in thought, reminded of the time Hanekoma told him the world ended with him and maybe he needs to open up to others to expand his world. Joshua interrupts him, saying they'll need to go up ahead to track the signal.
On their way to the mural, they notice Minamimoto reciting pi and cryptically mentioning a "desired solution", before leaving. They find on the ground some strange art that Joshua's tracker is responding to. He wonders what it is, saying it can't be anything good. Neku asks if they should erase it, but Joshua says they should leave it be because it could be a trap. Neku plans that since the mural's up ahead, he could get Joshua there and scan him. Joshua asks Neku if they could go to the mural.
Taboo sigil

Minamimoto's Taboo Noise refinery sigil.

Nearby, Uzuki and Kariya arrive in Udagawa. She complains about Joshua and Neku and how much she wishes she could erase them while wondering what Minamimoto could've been in Udagawa. Kariya orders Uzuki to call HQ immediately, because he recognizes the drawings as a Taboo Noise Refinery sigil. He explains to her that since the sigil hasn't been used the Taboo Noise are coming from another source but watching Minamimoto draw the sigil is damning evidence that he's behind it.
Meanwhile, Neku and Joshua are at the CAT mural. Neku thinks about how its the place he died in Joshua's head, but then realizes he assumed he was looking at Joshua's memories when it could've been his imagination. Joshua says Neku spacing out is giving him déjà vu. Neku is confused further, and scans him one more time.
I'm partnered to my killer

"It was here. He... He killed me!"

When he does, Neku sees himself at the Udagawa mural, smiling and reaching out to touch it. From around the corner, Joshua rushes in with a gun in his hand. Neku is shocked, unable to move as Joshua charges at him. A gunshot rings out, and Neku falls to the ground, revealing Joshua, his gun smoking. Joshua asks Neku, shaken by the scan, if there's something wrong before nonchalantly commenting the tracker is broken. Neku wonders how Joshua is so cool around someone he killed and what was his motive. Neku concludes Joshua killed him.

Walkthrough[]

Start by going to the Center St. Entrance and walk up the way to AMX. A Reaper's wall is blocking the way, and he wants a Sexy + pin. Fighting Noise No. 59, the Easterraven, on Easy will drop the pin. Clear the wall, and go into AMX. There, another Reaper will be blocking the way to Tipsy Tose Hall. His conditions for letting down the wall is a four-reduction chain battle in any area. Fight four rounds, then come back to him to clear the wall.
At Tipsy Tose Hall, 777, BJ, and Tenho are crowded near the way into Shibu Q-Heads. Talking to 777 or trying to move to Q-Heads will make 777 order Tenho to close off the road to Udagawa. Talk to 777 again to get the brief on his problem, and after that, talk to him one more time for questions. After getting 777's testimony, leave for Spain Hill to find Tenho. Ask him all the subjects, then move to Molco. Sota and Nao will interrupt and give a Tin Pin Golem before leaving. Go to the phone booth, and Joshua will take three photos on his phone, leaving just BJ to talk to.
BJ is at the Scramble Crossing; interrogate him, and he'll head back to Tipsy Tose Hall. Follow him there, and Joshua will start making his accusation. When Joshua asks Neku who placed the call at the payphone, select the photo taken at 2:02 p.m., then when Joshua calls on Neku again, select the photo taken at 1:55. Finally, when asked who is the culprit, choose "None of these guys". After making the accusation, Tenho will clear the wall to Q-Heads.
Beat will appear at Q-Heads and attack; like other Reaper Beat fights, survive for 30 seconds and he will leave. Go to Udagawa and at the CAT mural, scan Joshua to end the chapter.

Trivia[]

  • When Neku wins at Tin Pin at the start of the day, Joshua asks how he suddenly became an expert, and Neku replies "And why should I answer that?" while making a shrugging pose mimicking the way Joshua shrugs and talks. This is the only time in the game that Neku makes this pose.
    50339 (9)

    Neku's one-time shrugging sprite.

  • BJ admits in this day he used the phone booth of love at Molco to tell a girl he liked her, but never mentions the name of the girl who rejected him. In Joshua, Day 3, Uzuki and Kariya can be found at Tipsy Tose Hall. When talking to her, she gets interrupted by a phone call. The person on the other end is stuttery and quiet, and Uzuki hangs up, thinking it's a nuisance call.[1] It's heavily implied that BJ is the caller.
