The World Ends With You and NEO: The World Ends with You have four difficulty levels:
- Easy - Face the Noise
- Normal - Erase the Noise
- Hard - Hush the Noise
- Ultimate - Crush the Noise
The harder the difficulty, the stronger Noise become but the greater the rewards can be. Many pins are dropped only on specific difficulties against specific Noise. For which Noise drops which pin on which difficulty, please see the Noise List (TWEWY) and Noisepedia (NEO).
The World Ends with You[]
In TWEWY, PP bonuses (but not penalties, from E rank) are disabled on Easy, but is greater at higher difficulty levels. For details on how difficulty affects the damage formula, see damage.
The difficulty can be altered whenever the player can access the the Phone Menu. The player begins the game with only Normal difficulty available. Easy and Hard are unlocked via progressing through the main game, while Ultimate can be obtained at Shibu-Q Heads after earning (S) Game Cleared and unlocking the Chapter Selection Menu by clearing the main game.

NEO: The World Ends with You[]
Easy, Hard and Ultimate are unlocked on the Social Network.
Easy is unlocked by Fret and Hard is unlocked by Minamimoto. Ultimate requires a certain character (their identity is a spoiler) after the entire game has been completed.
